A student team that has designed, built and run a vehicle has something no coursework produces: evidence. Recruiters at these events routinely hire out of the paddock, because watching somebody debug a failure under time pressure tells you more than any interview.
Check the rulebook before the prize money. Vehicle class, budget cap and scrutineering requirements decide whether your team can realistically finish. A competition you fail scrutineering at is a year of work and no run.
Budget for logistics. Transporting a vehicle across two states costs more than most teams plan for, and it isn't covered by the entry fee.
Start eight months out. Teams that register in the last quarter arrive with something untested, and it shows on the first dynamic event.
Several of these fast-track finalists into interview rounds at hiring events, and the internship offers made in the pit lane are real. Even a mid-table finish is the strongest line on a fresher's résumé.
DIYguru Events is mostly a directory. Almost every listing is run by the organiser named on it — trade bodies, universities, exhibition companies and OEMs — and “Participate” takes you to their own registration page. Events marked DIYguru event are ours, and you register for those here — see just those. How this works

Every event on this page is one we track year-round, with dates confirmed by the organiser — never inferred from "it's usually in March". The list is a live query, so anything that finishes drops off on its own and next year's edition appears as soon as dates are announced. We don't take payment for placement; the only events we run ourselves are the ones marked DIYguru event.
