Privacy policy

DIYguru Events (events.diyguru.org) is operated by DIYguru. This page describes what we collect and why. Questions: events@diyguru.org.

What we collect

  • Account data — if you sign in: your email address, name and profile image (from Google, if you use it). Used to keep your saved events and alert settings.
  • Saved events — which events you bookmark, and whether you want a reminder before each one.
  • Subscriber data — if you subscribe to the digest: your email address, an optional name, your interest filters, and the page you subscribed from.
  • Submissions — if you submit an event: the details you type, your name, email, and optionally your phone number and role. We also store a salted hash of your IP address and your browser user-agent for 90 days as spam protection. The hash cannot be reversed to recover your IP.
  • Aggregate counters — how many times an event page was viewed and how many times its registration button was clicked. These are counters on the event, not records about you; we do not store who clicked what.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent your data.
  • We don't run third-party advertising or tracking pixels.
  • We don't add you to the digest because you created an account — subscribing is a separate, explicit action, and it's double opt-in.

Leaving for an organiser's site

Every "Participate" button sends you to a third party. Once you land there, that organiser's privacy policy applies, not ours. We pass no personal data to them — they only see a normal inbound visit.

Email

The digest is double opt-in: you get one confirmation email, and nothing else until you confirm. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works without signing in. Transactional email (submission receipts, sign-in) is sent only in response to something you did.

Retention

  • Account and saved events: until you delete your account.
  • Subscriber records: until you unsubscribe, then a suppression record so we don't re-add you.
  • Submission spam metadata (IP hash, user-agent): 90 days.
  • Submissions themselves: retained as the audit trail behind a published listing.

Your choices

To access, correct, or delete your data, write to events@diyguru.org from the address on the account. We'll action it within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we'll say so on this page and update the date at the top.
